Still spaces available for the Global Event with Kristin here in El Gouna in June.  Fundraising $100 ($80 for KB4Girls members) for Hope Village in Cairo, to support them with their amazing work with young street mothers and the women‘s shelter. More information on Hope Village can be found on their website: www.egyhopevillage.com

The advanced event is open to female kiteboarders who can at least ride independantly in both directions and preferably upwind, although it‘s possible to walk upwind here in the waist deep warm blue lagoons (no wetsuits required). So far we have girls registered from New Zealand, Egypt, the UK, Israel, Poland, Germany and the USA with levels ranging from those who just want to improve their riding to those wanting to learn tricks like kiteloops and railey to blind.

Event host and home of the El Gouna KB4Girls chapter, Kiteboarding Club and Buzzha Beach are providing discounts on courses and storage during the two weeks around the event. During the event participants will be offered a choice of two low budget healthy meal options at lunch each day of the clinic. In addition every week visiting and local girl kiters regularly get together on Tuesday‘s Italian evening and the following morning there‘s a free girl event (KBCforGirlz) riding together on the water to achieve their goals with the KBC photographer there to capture the action – not surprisingly the girl scene here is growing very fast: www.Kiteboarding-Club.com. Will get this properly in the calendar for you too.

The detailed program will be planned by Kristin with KBC and coaches Daga and Andrina in the days immediately before the clinic, based around the wind and tide forecast and the evening program will ensure everyone has a great time. Outside of the event days, there will be a discounted rate for participants with Surfvibes (www.surfvibes.com) for a girl downwinder to Palma Resort, which would be awesome and in the event of a nowind day after the clinic is over participants can take advantage of free snorkeling on the KBC house reef and discounted rates with SUP Red Sea (www.supredsea.com) during their stay.

No wind here is no problem as there is so much else to do in el Gouna.  Aside from relaxing, how about horse riding, SUP lagoon trips, Segway tours, golf, tennis, scuba diving, a camel ride, shopping and much more. In the evenings there‘s always something going on in El Gouna. The town is compact so, whether on foot, by bus, tok tok, taxi or shuttle boat, getting around is cheap and easy.

El Gouna is totally supporting the event and has made available some incredible offers in four Hotels closest to the event and these are extended to all comers, not just to participants, so friends and family can take advantage too. Not surprisingly the rooms are being taken up fast – so book soon to get the best deal. The offer covers a stay of up to 2 weeks as long as it includes the nights of 15th, 16th and 17th June. For those of you who don‘t know El Gouna already, it‘s Egypt‘s premier kiteboarding destination with 12km of beachfront, fringing the Red Sea and many more kilometers of interconnecting man made lagoons around town,  it‘s known as the Venice of the Red Sea. It‘s much more than just a beach destination, it‘s a completely self contained, private and secure. It even has a brand new university annex from Berlin, international and national schools, a fantastic hospital, many restaurants to choose from, beautiful marinas and much more – in short it‘s unique! It is just a 35 minute taxi ride north of Hurghada Airport, which can be reached from most European countries.

Our last event in 2010 was awesome and I look forward to riding with as many of you as possible again this June.

KB4Girls:  El Gouna - June 15-17th 2012!!

As you know, in June (15-17 Inclusive) Kristin is coming back to El Gouna to hold a Global KB4Girls Advanced clinic here at Buzzha Beach with our hosts, Kiteboarding Club. Registration is already open and some girls have already registered.

Accommodation

With fantastic support from El Gouna and the hotels here, we have been able to secure a great rate for rooms in 5 of the “Marina Hotels”: Fanadir, Mosaique, Captain’s Inn, Turtle’s Inn and the Ali Pasha.  The rates (see below) are available for Bed and Breakfast (B&B) or for Half Board (HB) and are valid for up to a 2 week stay as long as the 2 weeks includes the 15th, 16th and 17th!! Take advantage and come and enjoy all El Gouna has to offer and bring all your friends and family too, as the rate is open to everyone who quotes the promotional code… as long as there are still rooms available that is, it’s just too good to miss!! I think it may be a good idea to book your room as early as possible after registration.  The clinic is a great reason to get a real party vibe going and get as many people as possible to come and enjoy El Gouna, so these hotels may get booked up pretty quickly!! :D :D :D

Here’s a link to the hotels website, so you can see the accommodation details, they are under the drop down menus for the 4 star and 3 star hotels. http://hotels.elgouna.com/default.aspx
Use the interactive map and zoom to locate them.  The 2 closest to Buzzha Beach and Kiteboarding Club (where the clinic will take place) are Fanadir and Mosaique, which are next door to each other on the North Basin.  The other hotels are located quite close to each other round Abu Tig Marina.  All the hotels are within walking distance of each other or you can easily get around by tok tok (5 LE per person per journey) or taxi (15 LE anywhere in El Gouna) and there’s a shuttle bus service around El Gouna that costs 20 LE for a weekly ticket.

Accomodation prices (all prices per room per night)

Fanadir & Mosaique:
Single         B&B 28€    HB 43€
Double        B&B 37€    HB 67€

Ali Pasha, Captain’s Inn & Turtle’s Inn:
Single         B&B 21€    HB 32€
Double        B&B 28€    HB 50€

Transfers

When booking your accommodation, please state if you think you will require an airport transfer and this will be organized for you at an extra cost, to be paid locally.  To give you an idea, a taxi transfer costs approx. 120-150LE (10-15 Euros) for a car.

in El Gouna / Egypt

Living in a place like el Gouna means I meet lots and lots of wonderful people, just about every type of kiter you can imagine and I am really happy just chatting or kiting with them. Everyone is different but some people just take me completely by surprise and this year I have been overwhelmed by the new kids on the block.

Maybe you remember my last blog entry I touched on Kite Jamboree and hinted that there could be a surprise in store, well I’m late following up here but I’m really pleased to report that I was right. Two 15 year old El Gouna International School kids took the competition by storm, Noussa and Karim. Karim is a boy so not eligible for KB4Girls (!) but he is a class mate of Noussa and pretty much everything I can write about her applies to him too!! Noussa took a brilliant 2nd in the women’s category Karim came 2nd in the men’s amateur freestyle (and 1st in the juniors!). Sick, massive unhooked kite loops, unhooked backloop kiteloops, raileys, backloop transitions, Sbends, riding blind, I could go on and on but you get the picture, it was a real shock for everyone especially the more experienced riders.  Their first kite competition and first podiums. What is so astonishing is that they have only been kiting since April this year, 2011!!… and I’m really stoked as I got to shoot them during the comp and to write a feature which will be published locally soon! (Will post the link when I have it.)

The other thing about living here is we have year round kiting so even though the days are getting shorter and the "peak" season is over, here in sunny el Gouna things are quieter and winter is a really fun time on the water, I’m just thinking about getting my shortie out of the closet against the wind chill and will get into my 4/3 in the new year I guess. On no wind days the lagoons are perfect for SUP (I even got myself a new “used” board!) and the longer nights are giving me time to think more about the girl kite scene here ….. Will let you know what I come up with soon!

Just a very quick update on what's happening... it's KiteJamboree time in el Gouna which means it’s competition time… only this year I have decided to break with tradition (apparently I am a legend!!!) and not compete. Instead I will focus through the lens on catching some action and cheering on my friends and everyone else and we have lots and lots of wind !!

There are some familiar faces and some new ones this time.  Last year’s winner of all the women's events was Michalina Laskowska who is back in Europe training for the KTE final.  Not sure who will take the wins but for the freestyle I think there is someone who could surprise everyone.  Maybe I am wrong, will let you know if I am right in a few days time.....
