KB4girls stands for both, Kristin Boese for Girls and Kite Boarding for Girls and while the foundation was originally founded by Kristin to simply support females in kiteboarding through free clinics based on motivational and skill training it has quickly become a global network for female kiteboarding and now reaches out to others in need through fundraising as well.

My first kiting experience was in 2003, when I ended my professional career as a Judo player. I took a course, got a 2 line kite, but never got to kite on it, though I did get dragged all over, since I got pregnant (twice). I still own that brand new crispy Wipika kite...in the attic.
I got really into kiting when my two boys had grown a little and I got my strength back, 3 years ago.
I am in love with the sport, and hoping to get better and better.

I have been kiteboarding now for 8 years, I did my IKO instrutor training in 2009 in Weymouth and am now a Level 2 IKO instructor, and I plan on doing the BKSA training this year. I currently teach through the Brighton Kite Surf Academy, which is based on Lancing beach, which is also my local beach and where i live( I can see the kite beach from my lounge.) I am also a KB4 girls UK ambassador. I have been fortunate enough to attend and coach at various KB4 girls clinics in Egypt, Turkey, New York and of course England. I am also now sponsored by BEST Kiteboarding, and on the Lancing Kite Club committee with Jo Malyon. Whom I am super excited about creating this KB4 girls Chapter with. Jo and I met at the early days of our kiteing journey, and take great inspiration from each other. We are both super excited with how the female kite scene has developed and are looking forward to helping its growth continue.

I have been kiteboarding for over 3 years now & love my personal time on the water. It is awesome to set personal goals, have my own head space & get a phsycial work out all at the same time. I started kiting when I was nearly 40, so I can vouch for how achievable it can be for women of all ages & fitness levels. Give it a go; with quality instruction and local support, anyone can do it!

A bit about me and kiting - I'm originally from Baltimore. I stumbled into kiting in fall of 2007 when I saw someone cruising in the ocean in Rhode Island. I decided I had to try it, bought a trainer kite to play with all winter, and took my first lesson that next spring. A year later, I quit my job in NYC and headed down to Latin America to travel (and kite!) for nine months. I came back to the US and settled in the Outer Banks for the awesome kiting conditions. I've taught kiting the last two seasons at Kitty Hawk Kites (and then found someplace warm and windy to head to for the winter). I'm lucky enough to ride RRD kites and boards now. I love to kite with anyone and everyone, but nothing beats being out on the water with a bunch of women kiters who are having fun and trying new tricks!

If there has ever been a person that lacked a natural affinity for the kite, the board, or common sense about the wind & tides, that person was me. I have been residing in Nelson, NZ for roughly 3 years, but my kiting career began prior with lessons in Charleston, SC.
Truthfully, my kiting life was sparked after a split with a boyfriend, who told me when I expressed interest in kitesurfing that I would never learn to kite. The desire was always there, but the need for vindication was quickly replaced by passion & addiction. However, I would still like to make a toast to said ex-boyfriend: Thank you for the motivation to beat the crap out of myself until I figured it out.
I started a new sport not knowing a sole involved & then moved to a new country, not knowing anyone. My kite & confidence were packed away for at least a year before I revived it & ever so slowly my courage to get back on the water. I longed to feel like I was part of the kiting community & have someone that I could go out with or at least know could launch my kite. I realized to make that a reality I had to reach out to others, & thus started the Nelson Kitesurfing Chicks in Feb. 2011. My goal is to unite, motivate & encourage both regular & newbie female riders in Nelson & beyond.
I have started a Stand Up Paddle Board business - SUPSTAR - & a percentage of proceeds from every board sale will go toward funding a KB4Girls event in Nelson.
Rock on women. :) Persevere & support each other. Rest assured that every kitesurfer has had a kitemare (or 1000 in my case) & contemplated quitting. If you want it, if you consistently try & surround yourself with people that can give you pointers along the way, you will make it as we all have.
I hope we can all one day unite in a Global Event. You can join myself & the Nelson Kitesurfing Chicks through the following FB pages: Nelson Kitesurfing Chicks & Supstar.
