KB4girls stands for both, Kristin Boese for Girls and Kite Boarding for Girls and while the foundation was originally founded by Kristin to simply support females in kiteboarding through free clinics based on motivational and skill training it has quickly become a global network for female kiteboarding and now reaches out to others in need through fundraising as well.

KB4girls teams up with Boardsports and Kitopia to empower women and raise funds for Girls Inc.

TAMPA/SAN FRANCISCO/BERLIN, April 30th, 2012: This past weekend 29 women came together for the 4th annual KB4girls global event in Alameda and San Mateo, a womens only kiteboarding event to empower and motivate women to overcome fears and challenges and make new friends along the way.

While 7 complete beginners joined the group and showed courage by taking up a very addictive new sport the more advanced girls had to push themselves and each other to new limits and try new tricks that they had not attempted before. KB4girls founder and 9x World Champion Kristin Boese as well as Pro-Kiteboarder and Bay Area Super Star Sandy Parker from Kitopia first demonstrated each trick in detail on the water and on land and then took each of the females out for a spin once the wind kicked in on Sunday afternoon.

Boardsports’ local host and shop/school owner Jane Cormier, who did an incredible job organizing and hosting the event, says: “I am so thrilled to be a part of this amazing and inspirational event. Our KB4Girls women gather with the hope of improving their kiteboarding skills. They leave with huge smiles, new learned skills, new friends, a new community of women to ride with, and tremendous satisfaction from raising funds for such a wonderful local charity. The most satisfaction and joy for me personally comes from knowing that Kristin Boese, Sandy Parker, our Boardports Team, our participants, and all of our volunteers make a huge difference through our event’s charitable fundraising for Girls Inc of the Island City. We raised over $6,000 and are proud to support a cause that is such a perfect match for the spirit for the KB4Girls Events.”

All participating women pledged to raise funds for Girls Inc. of the Island City, the charity of choice for the clinic. Girls Inc., is a nation wide non-profit organization that encourages girls to be strong, smart and bold. The local affiliated Girls Inc. of the Island City was founded 47 years ago and has done an amazing job working for and with girls of Alameda ever since.

Already in 2011 Girls Inc. of the Island City was the chosen charity for the KB4girls global event in the Bay Area and $7000 were raised. This year well over $6000 have been raised to date through personal fundraising pages of the participating females the personal fundraising pages there of the participating girls as well as a silent auctions with many amazing prices from female owned business in the Bay Area. The fundraising pages will stay active until Mai 15, 2012 and all female kiters are hoping for more donations from their family and friends to be able to match or top last years donation to Girls Inc.

Many congrats go out to the fundraising queen Kristina Kind, the Best Trick winners; Sylvia Keller (most tricks tried and wettest kite, she held nothing back); Jennifer Cambell (for landing tons of her first ever back spins; and the Most Bold Beginner winner Judith Kline for catching some seriously awesome air while body dragging in the water.

A huge thanks goes to Jane Cormier (host), Rebecca Geffert (host), Sandy Parker (host and instructor), Josh Anon (photographer), Mike Smitheman (instructor), Tim Waterman (Instructor), Michael MIrisciotta (Instructor), Chris Apicella (BBQ master), Gail Romano (BBQ Master), Tay Nelson (Coordinator), Loren Brock (Coordinator). Sontian M-Stionson (Coordinator), Vinnie Tieto (Kite Launcher), Eddie Dikitanan (photographer), Francois Jeanneau (kite launcher) Dan Fu (Kite Launcher), Ray Mond (BBQ Master), Diana Biondo (Food Shopping), Kristina Kind (Media Promotion), and Eric Patena of Crate Crafted Events (DJ spinnin’ great music for us at our BBQ). We could not have had such an awesome time without the help of all of hosts, instructors, and volunteers.

We also want to thank our generous Silent Auction and BBQ donation participants. These donors of local wellness businesses helped to raise an additional $685 for our event. They include the San Francisco Bay Club, The San Francisco Boardsailing Association, Rebuild Restore, Enliven Health, Absolute Chiropractic, Red Dragon Yoga, Adventurous.com, Mieze Steinberg Massage, and Jae Berman Nutrition.

The KB4girls foundation and their worldwide tour is supported by Best Kiteboarding, DaKine, Baby-G and Vitamizzer.

The Annual General Meeting 2012 took place on April 19th, 2012 and was not only the very first online conference the foundation held, but also the first Annual General Meeting open to KB4girls members, ambassadors and the public due to the foundation having acquired 501 (c) 3 status just a little over a year ago.

With a lot of great feedback being given and directions being confirmed and decided the 2012 KB4girls AGM was a real success and the online conference room made it possible for the grassroots organization to hold the meeting at no cost. While only 2 guests followed the invitation to attend, the board of directors is excited about exploring the possibilities and learning proper non-profit processes that will hopefully encourage more engagement from members and ambassadors in the future.

Please find below the minutes of the 2012 AGM and the 2012 KB4girls Annual Report. The documents can also be downloaded here. If you are interested in a sound recording of the 2012 AGM please simple send us an e-mail.

On February 1, 2012 the KB4girls foundation released its long awaited calendar of international events for the 2012 season. The female kite community has received the event calendar with excitement and many girls have already registered for their events of choice. Have you seen the 2012 KB4girls GLOBAL event schedule yet? If not you better read up on it now and sign up for the event closest to you now!

Starting off this year’s KB4girls GLOBAL Tour, will be an event based out of Sydney in cooperation with the NSW Kite Boarding Association (NSWKBA) KITECHICKS, scheduled for the weekend of March 10th -11th 2012. The NSWKBA KITECHICKS group, lead by Priya Mohandas, organizes not-for-profit female clinics for beginner to advanced girls with huge success, creating a real stoke within the female kite community in and around Sydney. As Sydney’s beaches are challenging for beginner girls, the group roams to beaches north and south of Sydney, with this KB4girls/KITECHICKS event to take place in Culburra, 2 hours south of Sydney NSW. Culburra offers a perfect spot for the beginner lessons as well as a super fun beach with little kicker waves for the advanced group. The event will be limited to 20 experienced and 6 beginner spots, and all girls must be AKSA insured under their NSWKBA membership. The event is due to be launched within the week on www.nswkba.com.au/events so keep an eye out as it sells out within the first 24hours. You will not want to miss this event that will see Proinstructors Marine Sudre and Kristin Boese get together with the NSWKBA KITECHICKS crew, and these businesses that support female kiteboarders in New South Wales - Kitepower, Alliance Gear, Zepher Kite Tours, Wind Surf N Snow, Balmoral Boards, Divine Kiting, Kiteburra & Australian Kite Surfari.

Straight from Sydney KB4girls will head over to the KTA Thailand for the second GLOBAL event of the year. Entering a 3 year agreement to support female kiteboarders in Asia, KB4girls and KTA (Kite Tour Asia) first joined forces in last years KTA event on Boracay/Philippines with amazing success and more females in a competition than ever before. This year will see KB4girls founder and 9x World Champion Kristin Boese supporting the female competitors (and these that aspire to become one) during the KTA event and Asian course race championship taking place from March 13 to 18, 2012 in Prandbury/Thailand. The KB4girls part of the event will be a bit different to all other KB4girls GLOBAL events and focus more on competition preparation, coaching, tactics and mental imaging and will take place from the March 13 to 15, with the first day being purely kite clinic and the following days being focused on guiding the female competitors through the competition. Following the goal to create a less intimidating but friendship kind of feel in the competition KB4girls encourages all female competitors to join the KB4girls part of the event but also encourages these girls and women uncertain about competing to come and be part of it all and gain the self-confidence needed to compete in either this or a later competition!

The next event will see KB4girls return to Alameda/San Francisco. After a fabulous event in cooperation with Jane Cormier from Boardsports and Sandy Parker from Kiteopia in 2011 (and pre-KB4girls also in 2010 and 2009) this event will be highly anticipated amongst the girls and women in the Bay Area and all over the West Coast of the USA. With the home base of the event being the Boardsports school and shop there will also be the possibility to travel to other surrounding spots if needed due to wind and weather conditions. Alameda however usually offers nice, consistent winds between 15 and 20 knots during this time of the year as well as a relatively smooth water surface and a shallow water area that will make learning new tricks a breeze for the participants once again. Having been one of the most successful events in 2011 on the charitable side of things (7000 US$ donated to Girls Inc. of Island City) this years goal for the event will be to raise even more funds for these girls that can need our support and we are looking forward to having some of the Girls Inc. girls at the event again! Mark the dates in your calendars girls and register now for the KB4girls Event in Alameda on April 28 and 29, 2012!

KB4girls GLOBAL event number 4 will take place in El Gouna/Egypt, probably THE best shallow, flat and warm water destination with consistent winds within close reach to Europe (and it is close to Asia too!!!). With the support of our El Gouna chapter ambassadors Jenny and Julia and in cooperation with Kiteboarding-Club and El Gouna this event will be packed full with action during day and night and will simply be the perfect kite getaway for every female kiteboarder out there. With the KB4girls event itself going from June 15 to 17, 2012 participants are encouraged to arrive in El Gouna some days before the event (warm up, enjoy the conditions and get used to them so you are ready to improve!) and leave a few days after the event (keep practicing your newly learned moves and learn even more with all the tips you were just given during the clinic). Have you watched Kristin's instructional DVD and wondered where this stunning location is that it was all filmed at... You better register for this event and book your flight to Egypt now to check it out! ;) And by the way, June is the month with the highest wind statistics in El Gouna!

From warm and toasty to a bit more chilly... next up will be the KB4girls GLOBAL event in Lancing/UK. Another very proven one on the KB4girls schedule will be bringing one thing with it for sure.. A LOT OF PARTY time!!! Well known for having a lot of fun and partying until late into the night the girls in the UK also have a lot of other great properties and local ambassadors Andrina Kelly and Jo Mallyon will be doing a fantastic job planning everything for and around the clinic as always. But wait! Did you check out the dates yet? The KB4girls event in Lancing will take place from July 27 to 29, 2012 and will be colliding with the first 3 days of the London 2012 Olympic Games!!! Well, what do you think girls? We will just have to make this our very KB4girls own celebrations of the games with a fun party on the Friday evening (all of you that get a chance to watch the parade live please do so, join us on Saturday morning and tell us all about it!!!) as well as our own mini-Olympics in cooperation with the BKSA… but seriously… we don’t want to tell you too much… just be ready and prepared for a fun weekend and make sure to register soon!

Last, but certainly not least, the 2012 KB4girls Tour will be part of the 3rd Annual DREAM EXTREME fundraising event held in the Hamptons, New York. Dream Extreme has been incredibly successful raising more than $300,000 USD for victims of domestic violence over the past 2 years. In the midst of the KB4girls kiteboarding clinic, there is an exciting day-time Beach Bash with delicious food and an array of adventurous activities (for men, women and children) all to reinforce the importance of a healthy lifestyle. If that isn’t enough, the weekend also includes a festive Dinner Dance Party with a silent auction that continues to draw more than 200 leaders in business, fashion, entertainment and New York society. This unforgettable weekend-experience is geared toward every female that would like to learn to kiteboard or simply improve their skills. The DREAM EXTREME KB4girls event is slated for September 21 - 23, 2012. You don’t want to miss this empowering experience for a worthy cause! 34 KB4girls Chapter Events and Counting!

in KB4girls global

There is something very unique that brings women together in any male dominated field of life and this is very true for the sport of kiteboarding as well… Many women simply like to support each other in this environment and get together with other women – an incredibly joyful phenomenon that the KB4girls chapter program taps into.

Being able to sign on the first 14 KB4girls chapters and their amazing ambassadors has been incredible and it is a real pleasure working together with such motivated and giving individuals. What has really blown our minds however is the success that the first chapter events were realized with and the number of KB4girls events that are already on the schedule for 2012!

So far only 4 of the 14 existing KB4girls chapters have released their schedules for 2012 and 3 other chapters have released their first event dates. This already brought the number of chapter events for the 2012 season up to a total count of 34… and yes, only just counting…! This seems like we are well on our way to creating a real female community around the world.

But what does that mean for you? Well, that could mean you could now easily join a Chapter activity near you and enjoy an instructional clinic geared to your level (often with special guest coaches!), simply kite with other female kiters and make some new friends and much more.

If you find that there isn’t a Chapter in your location yet, that could also mean that you could consider to start a KB4girls Chapter in your area of course. READ MORE ON HOW THAT WORKS HERE.

For now we would simply like send out a huge thanks to our Ambassadors and Chapters in Cabarete/Dominican Republic, Charleston/South Carolina and Baja/Mexico for doing such an incredible job with their first ever chapter events (read all about it on their blogs!!!) and we will be looking forward to many more events to come!

Female kiters from all over Australia join the fun at Safety Bay

High resolution pictures of the KB4girls tour are available here: http://www.kb4girls.org/index.php/media/media-pictures-for-download

PERTH, December 19th, 2011: This past weekend marked the finish of the KB4girls foundations second successful season when 25 female kiters came together in Rockingham, just south or Perth/Western Australia, to improve their riding, empower each other and raise funds for the Aim For The Stars Foundation.

Sunny skies and steady winds set the stage for 2 amazing days of kiting, coaching, on-water-demonstrations and a lot of fun for all participants. Australian pro-riders Shannon Ducker, Chrissy Gaudieri and Michelle England did a fantastic job coaching the participants all weekend alongside KB4girls founder and 9x world champion Kristin Boese. The motivation amongst the participants was huge and the excitement visible as everyone learned new tricks and skills to add to their repertoire.

In result many happy faces could be seen in front of the Safety Bay Yacht club, who hosted the clinic, on Sunday afternoon. It was then and there when the clinic officially closed with an award ceremony in which Calina Montebello and Cristiana Chessa were honored the most improved riders of the event. Annie Bryce, who had flown in all the way from Melbourne to join the event, won a KB signature board from Best Kiteboarding for being the participant that raised the most funds for the Aim For The Stars Foundation.

At this point a total of 2075 $ has been raised for Layne Beachleys “Aim For The Stars Foundation” that supports females allover Australia on their way to success through their grant program. The participants’ personal fundraising pages will stay active until December 31, 2011 and any additional donation received before the date will add to the funds raised for the partner charity.

Nicolea Paull, head oft he local organization, had the following to say about the weekend: “The kiting community, especially other women kiters, have been invaluable in helping me enjoy and progress in this sport since I started out as a very slow-learner 5 years ago, and I think it is my karma to pay it forward in this way. It has been a great pleasure for me to see all the women have a fantastic time this weekend, both on and off the water, which is what makes all the effort over the last year worthwhile.”

The KB4girls event in Rockingham was supported by the City of Rockingham, WAKSA, Angostura, WA Surf, the Safety Bay Yacht Club, Kitegirl Magazine, Hive Swimwear, Adrenaline Board Sports, Rockingham Holiday Village and the Department of Environment and Conservation.

A huge thanks goes out to the local organization team, coaches and volunteers Nicolea Paull, Shannon Ducker, Christine Gaudieri, Michelle England, Nathan Ducker, Tim Savage, Craig Ey, Chris De Young, Lou Ey, Rick Price and Paul Smyth.

The KB4girls foundation and their worldwide tour is supported by Best Kiteboarding, DaKine, Baby-G and Vitamizzer.

PERTH, December 8 , 2011: Girls and women allover Australia are getting ready for the last KB4girls event of the season to take place in Rockingham, just south of Perth/WA, from the 16th to the 18th of December.

Being the 10th international event of the KB4girls foundation to be run in 2011, the womens’ kiteboarding clinic and fundraising event focuses on empowering women through the sport AND raising money for Layne Beachley’s “Aim for the Stars” foundation.

“I am really looking forward to the weekend with the Aussie girls, especially since WA is my second home and I feel very connected with them. On top of that our local organization crew headed by Nicolea Paull has done an incredible job with setting everything up. Last but not least though I am very happy that we are raising funds for an incredible foundation – “Aim for the Stars” – that follows the same mission we do, just on a bigger scale.” says Kristin Boese, 9x Kiteboarding World Champion and founder of KB4girls.

The clinic will see pro-riders Shannon Ducker, Chrissy Gaudieri, Michelle England and Kristin Boese coach the 30 participating girls some new tricks and push their level of riding while meeting many other female kiters. In return for this free event the participants have been asked to set up a personal fundraising page on www.kb4girls.org and raise money for the cause.

After the local organization had applied for a grant, the City of Rockingham stepped up to support the event financially, making it possible to cover a big part of the expenses for the event and giving the girls lots of experience and a great time.

Further partners of the event include WAKSA, Angostura and WA Surf. The KB4girls foundation and their worldwide tour is supported by Best Kiteboarding, DaKine and Baby-G.

The KB4Girls tour schedule 2011 reads as follows:

BERLIN/TAMPA, November 22th, 2011: Launching in December 2009 with the goal to empower females through the sport of kiteboarding, the KB4girls Foundation has quickly become an instance in the sport and enjoys the support of national and international kite associations, worldwide kite media, and, of course, the female kiting community.

While the foundation has run a total of 22 events around the world in the past 2 years, the KB4girls board of directors - including president Kristin Boese, vice president Laurel Eastman, treasurer Michelle Yamamoto and board members Sandy Parker, Elea Faucheron and Fiona Kempton – have identified the challenge of making the free events available to all female kiters around the world.

With the huge demand from girls all over the globe, the solution now comes in form of the KB4girls chapter program that sees the foundation encourage and help local female kite groups to start a program for the female kiters in their area and give many more female kiters the chance to receive support in that way.

At this point the KB4girls foundation is in touch with over 40 girls groups and ambassadors around the world that have shown interest to become an accredited KB4girls chapter and the new structure has been applied to the KB4girls website where each chapter will soon get its own presence.

Any local/national KB4girls chapters will be required to provide a supportive environment for female kiters and to organize at least one chapter activity per month (within the kiting season).

At the same time the KB4girls foundation will continue to run a minimum of 5 "KB4girls Global Events” per year which will continue to be 2-day events that star Kristin Boese herself and feature pro coaching on land and water focusing on improving the women’s kite skills.

Local chapters will be encouraged to come together at the KB4girls Global Event to expand the KB4girls experience and enjoy networking with other females from around the world. This way the KB4girls chapters and global events will help create a worldwide structure for women to connect to at home and abroad. To find out how to become a chapter or how to join one follow: http://www.kb4girls.org/chapters/become-a-local-chapter.html

The KB4girls foundation is supported by Best Kiteboarding, DaKine and Baby-G.

New York kiteboarding brings luxury and flair

September 19, 2011: KB4girls and Dream Extreme teamed up to teach women kiteboarding while raising money for a great cause. For the second year KB4girls descended upon The Hamptons, legendary playground for many of New York’s rich and famous. Local event organizer Linda Argilla and her Solutions From the Heart team once again created a unique event that brought kiteboarding to a new audience, and like all KB4girls events, empowered women to push their personal limits and overcome difficulties. Dream Extreme: Challenge to Triumph is an event like no other KB4girls event. By fundraising to support children and women in abusive families in New York and disadvantaged kids in Haiti, this event is not only fun but also very meaningful.

Kicking off Friday night, the KB4girls participants were hosted in the Southampton home of one of New York’s most accomplished and cherished philanthropists, Henry Buhl, founder of Project Comeback (ACE) – a fantastic initiative which provides jobs for homeless in New York City. Henry’s fantastic sunflower house was the perfect setting for cocktails and appetizers and for the star-studded line up of coaches to get to know the women they would be guiding through kiteboarding fun for the next two days.

Saturday was about as full and exciting as a day could be! In addition to the 20 amazing ladies participating in both beginner and advanced kiteboarding clinics, the Montauk beach Dream Extreme event site had something for everyone. From SUP to a palm-reading fortuneteller, long distance swimming, kayaking, yoga classes and two delightful massage therapists the sponsors and supporters were entertained and pampered.

Saturday evening’s gala dinner at the Four Seasons Southampton gave the kiters a chance to “scrub up” and show off their fanciest duds while rubbing elbows with hot New York socialites. This year’s honoree, Courtney Dawson, a young philanthropist and Founder of The Dawson Scleroderma Foundation, was in attendance, as was supermodel Bonnie Pfeifer Evans, the Honorary chair of Dream Extreme. Both of these gorgeous and inspirational women are really excited about kiteboarding, which is fantastic for our sport!

Sunday it was back to the beach at Napeague where the focus was making the most of the incredible winds and teaching the women to fly. These lucky ladies had some of the top coaches in the world, including BEST Kiteboarding namesake and wakeboarding Hall of Famer, Shannon Best and internationally accomplished rider John Modica. Coaches came from as far as England, Turks and Caicos, Cape Hatteras, Oregon, Dominican Republic and of course the great crew from local kite schools were on hand to impart their knowledge and get the girls stoked.

The Dream Extreme event takes the core value of KB4girls - empowering women - and brings the energy of kiting to a group of women (and their children) who need empowerment the most. Through the participant’s personal fundraising, ticket sales, and silent auction the KB4girls/Dream Extreme partnership has once again created something spectacular and made a real difference in the lives of abused women and children by supporting the Edwin Gould Services for Children and Families and their important work.

The KB4girls foundation and worldwide tour is supported by Best Kiteboarding, DaKine and Kiehl’s.

TAMPA/PORTLAND, August 16, 2011: Kiteboarding women of various skill levels from around the Pacific Northwest came together for the Hood River clinic to learn new skills, refresh safety habits, meet other lady kiters, and even to help raise money for Girls Inc. of Portland.

Four girls, aged 10 and 11 years, participating in the Girls Inc. program of the Portland chapter joined the kiters in the afternoon to watch 9x World Champion Kristin Boese demonstrate techniques and tricks. Later in the day they were guided by Kristin in flying a trainer kite – an experience these girls will surely not forget too soon.

Girls Inc. is a national local nonprofit youth organization dedicated to inspiring all girls to be strong, smart and bold.

With winds gusting up to 30 knots, Hood River did not disappoint, but yet did not deliver the easiest learning conditions for the participants.

Pro coach Becky Bishop claims: “The fact that all the women were able to go out in the challenging high wind conditions was inspirational in itself. The camaraderie and the support amongst the girls and women encouraged them to overcome their fears and they still attempted and learned what they wanted to learn.”

And after a day of bonding through kiting Michelle Yamamoto, participant, states: “We have created livelong friendships that will inspire us to get together and continue to build our female kite community and I just really look forward to hanging out with the girls again and having fun while share our passion!”

Local organizer Lauri Streaker, who carried out an amazing job locally putting together the event, explains: “I learned a lot about what it takes to bring a group of people together in a safe and organized way and it was very satisfying. It was gratifying to see everyone having a great time. Helping Girls Inc. was an important aspect of the clinic as well as seeing the participants helping each other and becoming better kiters. I am totally stoked to be working with KB4girls in the future.”

The event would not have been possible without the amazing support of the pro trainers Laura Maher, Britney Todd and Becky Biship as well as the volunteers Andrew and Amy Olive from Bellingham, Jonah Peskin from Hood River and photographer Jim Stringfellow from Seattle.

Congratulations go out to participant Machelle Dotson, whose raised a total of $220 for Girls Inc. and won a KB signature board from Best kiteboarding!

The local organization would like to especially thank the amazing local partners and sponsors who contributed to the success of the event: Slingshot Kites, Second Wind Sports, The Sandbar Café, Rosauers, Gorge Gradients Kite School, Cascade Pro Photo and Neuro.

The KB4girls foundation and their worldwide tour is supported by Best Kiteboarding, DaKine and Baby-G.

First ever “girls only” fun competition proves to be a real success

TAMPA/LONDON, June 27th, 2011: Last year Lancing/England was a tour stop on the KB4girls 2010 World Tour and while the wind was disappointing, the girls were so passionately motivated and really impressed world champion Kristin Boese so much that the Southern England spot was kept on the KB4girls 2011 tour.

This year the event in Lancing was not only blessed with wind, sunshine and perfect conditions, but also had something very special to offer: the first ever “girls only” fun competition in cooperation with the British Kitesurfing Association (BKSA).

The first day and a half of the event started with the usual safety briefing, on-water-demonstration, simulator training as well a full day of kiting with instructions by pro-coaches Andrina Kelly, Steph Bridge and Kristin Boese.

On the evening of day 2 however the participating females found themselves in a competition briefing where Kristin explained the basics of competing, the main details of next day’s fun competition, and many more hints and tips.

After an hour warm-up on day 3, the 30 KB4girls participants were all in for their first ever competition and were divided into 3 fleets depending on their level of riding.

Richard Gowers (BKSA chairman) and Pete Shaw (BKSA vice chairman) took over from here and run a perfect competition in true style. The fog horn, flags, notice board, safety boat and heat charts all did not seem so intimidating anymore to the participating females after the first skippers meeting was over and a few first heats were run and the excitement just escalated.

While many of the participants impressed themselves as well as their coaches by pulling off and even landing tricks they had never even tried before it became clear very quickly that the competition format, even though a fun one with little pressure, added quite a bit of extra motivation and kick for the girls.

The girls were judging each other and cheering each other on and the whole fun competition created an amazing vibe around the event and in the group and surely this will not be the last competition of its kind.

BKSA chairman Richard Gowers commented: “Doing a competition with KB4girls has been a real eye opener and inspiration. It reminded me of the early days when competing together was great fun and there were no attitudes or egos on the beach. Well done to all the girls who turned up. I hope we see another event like this soon.”

Julie Davis, participant in the event says about her experience: “Like many other girls I was very apprehensive and did not know what to expect from the event at all, but it has been the most amazing experience and I have learned so much from it that I can now take away with me. The BKSA competition was absolutely fantastic and meeting all the girls of all different levels has just been great. Thanks so much to everyone!”

The BKSA and KB4girls team congratulate the winners competition winners:

Basic group:
1.     Louise Squires
2.    Hannah Stock
3.    Anna Orchard

Intermediate group:
1.    Becky Harris
2.    Fliss Bertram
3.    Anna Seager

Advanced group:
1.    Pauline McLaughlin
2.    Sarah Dorking
3.    Andrina Kelly

The local support for the event proofed amazing once again and a very special thanks goes out to Andrina Kelly, Steph Bridge, Joanne Malyon, Natasha Stipp, Frazer and Jaz from the Brighton Kitesurfing Accademy, The Lancing Kitesurfing Club, The New Sussex Hotel in Lancing, Lancing Council, The Adrenaline Store, the BKSA, Mark Glendinning from Supersaturated.co.uk, Howard Kearley, Jaz Mondo and Kiteworld magazine.

The KB4girls foundation and 2011 Worldwide Tour is supported by Best Kiteboarding and DaKine.

San Francisco women participate in female kiteboarding clinic and empower themselves and others

TAMPA/LONDON/PORTLAND, June 1, 2011: Over the memorial day weekend 35 female kiteboarders and others who wanted to learn the sport came together on Alameda beach in the San Francisco Bay Area to participate in the KB4girls 2011 World Tour charity event.

Aiming to empower young girls in Alameda and the area by raising funds for the Girls Inc. organization the KB4girls 2011 World Tour participants collected a total of just over $7000 through personal fundraising pages and personal donations. At the same time the participating women also empowered themselves by pushing their limits by either taking up the sport of kiteboarding or learning new tricks under the advice and coaching of 9-time world champion Kristin Boese, US course racing champion Sandy Parker, ex world cup star Laurel Eastman, female ripper Elea Faucheron as well as many other volunteer coaches and assistants.

The local hosts Boardsports school & shop and Kitopia made sure the participating girls had everything they needed with a simulator, video screening, standup paddleboards and more available for the not-so-windy Saturday. However, as soon as the wind picked up, nothing could keep the girls and women on the beach as they hurriedly pumped their kites to get out on the water and into the action!

The female kiters had a good atmosphere as they pushed each other with competitive rivalry and in turn were pushed to the next level by their coaches. Many new tricks were learned and at the end of day the beach and the Boardsports school & shop facilities were filled with happy faces and excitedly chatting kiters as the prizes were awarded.

Many congratulations go out to the fundraising queens Sylfia Ferrero and Jane Sedonan, the Best Trick winners May Yam, Adelaide Bodson and Ginette Buffone, the SUP race winners Kerstin Doerre and Elea Faucheron as well as the Silke Gorldt Spirit Award winner Machelle Dotson.

The KB4girls foundation and their worldwide tour is supported by Best Kiteboarding and DaKine.

Bridging Nations through kiteboarding - KB4girls Turkey

TAMPA/LONDON/PERTH, May 16th, 2011: From May 12th through 15th the third stop on the KB4girls 2011 tour took the idyllic Turkish kiteboarding spot, Akyaka, by storm. An intimate gathering of women kiteboarders, the event had the essential elements for a great time: good wind for progression, legendary hospitality, delicious food and top entertainment. Day one brought light winds, so the girls passed the time with a beach orientation, simulator training and then got some exercise with a fun night of belly dancing lessons and dancing on the tables!  Istanblue, the Turkish Vodka sponsor of the event, definitely made the evening festivities very lively.

As happens quite often, after a fun night of food, drinks and dancing the wind picked up!  On day two the girls got out on the water, including KB4girls founder and 9x world champion, Kristin Boese, who braved kiting on a mending ankle to show the participants trick progression.

One of the special aspects of the event was that the attending group of female kiters was smaller than usual, so everyone had the opportunity to get to know each other on a more intimate level. Mostly consisting of Turkish participants the group of 10 girls also included 2 women from Israel.

With the current political tension between Israel and Turkey, this gathering helped to prove Nelson Mandela’s famous quote that, “Sport has the power to change the world.”  Thanks to this special KB4girls occasion, the women went home with stories of warm welcomes, friendship and camaraderie.

Shalhevet Segal from Israel has to say: “Coming here we had quite a few debate and 2 of our friends actually stayed beind. The political situation between Turkey and Israel made it really hard for us but we really wanted to come to the KB4girls event. Because it is a sport event Orit and I knew that politics have nothing to do with it. Coming here we had all the Turkish girls welcome us and had so much fun with them and we are really happy we came.”

All in all the Akyaka venue was fabulous and the KB4girls team as well as the local organizer, Sarah Craddy of Alwayswindy.com and co-trainer Andrina Kelly from the UK are already looking forward to next year’s event.

The next KB4girls event will be held in San Francisco, California over the Memorial Day holiday for a “Kiteboarding For a Cause” weekend where over 30 participants will try to raise $6000 for a local charity, Girls Inc, whose mission is to inspire all girls to be smart, bold and strong.

The KB4Girls tour schedule 2011 reads as follows:

Bulabog Beach on Boracay Island, Philippines will host a KB4Girls PRO clinic alongside KTA’s (Kiteboard Tour Asia) tour stop

High resolution pictures of the KB4girls tour are available here: http://www.kb4girls.com/press/press-area/press-pictures.html)!

TAMPA/LONDON/MANILA, February 3rd,  2011: The KTA (Kiteboard Tour Asia) and the KB4girls foundation enter a 3 year agreement that sees the KTA tour host a KB4girls event at one of their tour venues each year. Main goal of the cooperation is to promote female kiteboarding in Asia and motivate more Asian girls and women to take up kiteboarding on a competitive level.

The first event as part of the cooperation will be held at the KTA tour stop on Boracay Island, Philippines and will take place from March 8th-10th, 2011.

Boracay is a famous kiteboarding destination and many international riders visit the island on a regular basis for its perfect shallow water and consistent wind conditions. With many female kiters on the island and the surrounding Asian countries Boracay will be the perfect place and time not only to kick off the 2011 KB4girls tour but also the cooperation with the KTA.

As a KB4girls PRO event this camp will focus on motivating and preparing females riders for international competitions while maintaining the KB4girls vision to build supportive local female kiting communities. Females of all ages and ability levels are welcome to join. The minimum requirements for participants are the ability to go upwind and to kite independently.

Girls will receive direct on-the-water and on-the-sidelines, coaching from 9 time world champion Kristin Boese. The girls will also be encouraging each other throughout the competition, raising an overall confidence level while learning tips and tactics for success.

Kiting in Asia is picking up pace, with the KTA tour stops providing a way to measure ones skills, more riders are working harder and improving fast! Neil Godbold, organizer of the KTA, says , “Getting more girls involved in the competition scene in Asia is a brilliant idea and one of the reasons we started the KTA.  I think KB4girls is a wonderful foundation and we are proud to be working with them. We look forward to our training partnership with KB4girls. The KTA Philippines is a great event and one that riders from across the region and further have been looking forward to again this year, now it just got even better."

Kristin Boese, founder of KB4girls, remarks "I am especially excited about our event on Boracay/Philippines, not only because it is such a beautiful place and perfect kite location but also because this event is going to be our first ever KB4girls event in Asia! It will give all the female kiters there a chance to join our camps too. I am also very thrilled about KB4girls' cooperation with the KTA as I think both the KTA and our foundation are following many of the same goals and ideals like supporting the local communities and riders and working together for a healthy growth of our sport."

Anny Barlow, local organizer and rider, says: “This union between the KTA and KB4girls is perfect. Many of the female riders in Boracay can’t wait for this experience. When we catch-up I can already see it’s motivating more girls to join the competition, knowing they will have a coach and support structure near by. And personally, I can’t wait to see the community structure that will evolve between us fellow female kiters on our little island.”

The event will be held at Bulabog Beach in front of the 7Stones Resort that is supporting and hosting both the KTA and KB4girls event. The KB4girls training area will be set up outside of Hangin Kite School at Greenyards Funboard and Neilpryde Test Center. The KB4girls foundation and their worldwide tour is sponsored by Best Kiteboarding, DaKine and Kiehl’s.

Registration for this event will be open at http://www.kbgirls.org until March 1st, 2011 and will be limited to 30 girls and women. A donation fee of 30$ will be asked for that will aid the KB4girls foundation to continue their projects.
