We at KB4Girls Lancing would like to organise a team of girls for this event. You would participate in the 1 mile downwind stretch for the world record, with the option of continuing on for the 40 mile charity downwinder afterwards!
So! For our next chapter event we are organising a downwinder from Lancing to Shoreham (or vice-versa, wind depending!) to give those of you who may not have done many downwinders the opportunity to 'test the water' (pun intended..!) and see whether it is something you feel you can get involved in!
While on the downwinder you will have the opportunity to either work on surf board technique with pro coach Chris Simpson, or develop your twin tip freestyle with Christine Johnson and our very own Andrina Kelly!

So last month, our KB4girls chapter missed a meet due to terrible cold, rainy weather and low turnout. Our East coast conditions have been squirrelly this season. Typically this time of year, we’re averaging 3-5 sessions a week on the water. So this month, despite another 30 days of grey weather, we did our best to make up for March with a weekend of adventures.

The KB4girls Charleston Chapter literally stumbled across another savvy and sassy group of water women last month. It all started one day when their president, Sarah Kellerman, walked into and introduced herself and the club. While focuses primarily on surfing, they love to stay active and try new things. A few meetings later, it was decided that our club, would host their club, for a trainer kite clinic.

Once again Mother Nature gave us less that epic conditions to work with, but no matter, this group had an outrageous time. With a self-professed coach potato, a couple of serious runners, a pack of surfers, and some uncooperative body parts, we completed 2 hours of fly time and everyone was all smiles despite the cold!

With winter thwarting spring at every turn, we’ve been starved for a session. WOW!!! What a day! The wind was cranking Saturday then offshore Sunday, I wasn't sure if anything was going to happen! But 1.30 rolled around, the crew were waiting at the beac h and girls started turning up. They signed in, and we waited until 2.00. I split 17 girls in to 4 groups, then had another 8 late comers to put in the groups! 25 girls gave kiting a go, and learnt the safety and set up of the kite, some girls even got to fly a kite for the first time.
Another group of girls came down to pick up their hoodies (which, even if I do say so myself, look HOT!) - So, all in all, I reckon we had about 40 girls through the day .....
Big THANKS to everyone who helped me on the day (with admin and photos!) and to the schools and instructors who came down to be a part of it and share their knowledge.

Our first KB4Girls Chapter event of the year is designed to get you thinking of the season ahead and what you want to achieve. Starting with a safety briefing to recap important skills such as deep-water pack downs and bar/kiting safety procedures, we will then have a chat about your current kiting level. Next we will look to the year ahead - and what you would like to be able to do at the end of it!
After this it will be time to start working on these goals! We'll group you with a coach and start with some land based visualization before heading out onto the sea, where our coaches will do demonstrations and give you advice. It's our aim that you will finish the day having made some real steps towards meeting your kiting goals!
At the end of the day we'll head over to the New Sussex Pub to discuss how we all got on (and quite possibly enjoy a scrummy well-earned roast dinner!) and what your next steps are.
