2011 Highlights

2011 marked the second KB4girls season and in the short time of its existence the foundation has firmly established itself as an important player in female kiteboarding worldwide! Once again KB4girls fully realized their mission of empowering females through the sport of kiteboarding all around the world and 2011 proved to be a memorable and very successful year.

Once again each event proved to be very special in its own and 2011, in general, ended up being “the year of firsts” in many ways.  With the event during the Kiteboard Tour Asia (KTA) tour stop in Boracay, Philippines being the first ever KB4girls happening in Asia.  An exciting agreement was reached with the KTA to bring KB4girls to female kiters in Asia during one of their events for the following 3 years. Read the event release here!

Another first was the incredible GIRLS ONLY competition organized in cooperation with the British Kite Surfing Association (BKSA) during the KB4girls event in Lancing in August. An event that motivated the participating girls and women in a very special way! Read more about it here!

And last, but not least, it was not only the first time for KB4girls, but also the first time in kiteboarding history that more than 160,000 USD was raised in a kite related fundraising event.  Linda Argila and her team, as well as all participating women, managed to break last year’s record of 155,000 USD in this year’s Dream Extreme/KB4girls event. Learn all about Dream Extreme here!

In general KB4girls is stoked to have been able to realize many of its goals in 2011, amongst them to run a total of 10 events; get more than 257 girls and women involved; coach 53 of them during competitions (most of them their first ever); through the KB4girls FOR A CAUSE events, donated 16,881 USD to local charities (Surfrider Foundation Europe, Silke Gorldt Association, Stiching Amazones, Girls Inc. of Island City, Girls Inc. Portland and Aim for the Stars) and raised an incredible 160,000 USD in cooperation with Dream Extreme.

This all, however, would not have been possible without the dedication of the local organizers, communities, sponsors, the pro coaches, many volunteers and of course the KB4girls board members.  A big thanks goes out to everyone who has been involved and may 2012 be as successful as the past 2 years have been!

KB4girls Chapter Program

As you may have already heard, in November 2011 KB4girls released its worldwide Chapter Program.  After 2 years of organizing events for female kiters all over the world and meeting amazing girls and women with the common interest of kiteboarding, it became obvious that running a dozen events a year wouldn’t be able to cover all areas and reach out to all these females interested in the program.

While the 2 day free events and clinics proved extremely powerful and effective, the KB4girls board of directors understood that creating a permanent network of female kiters in each kiting community would render ongoing support and fun for women everywhere.  Many locations had already initiated their own amazing groups and will now have the opportunity to become associated with the KB4girls network and receive support from the foundation in many ways.  To date, KB4girls has officially recognized 12 Chapters in the following countries:  Turkey, United Kingdom, USA (North Carolina and South Carolina), Canada (Ontario), Mexico, Dominican Republic, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, Italy and Egypt.  On top of that, KB4girls is currently processing more applications for other regions and is looking forward to welcoming many more chapters to its worldwide network.

Passionate female kiters from all around the world are encouraged to become part of it all and setting up a Chapter is very easy.  It requires an Ambassador (or multiple ones) to host a minimum of one Chapter activity per month during the kiting season that will bring female kiters together (i.e. kite get-togethers, planned downwinders, specified clinic sessions, women-only fun competitions, learn to fly a kite days for girls and women and more!).  The Chapter Ambassador(s) will also act as a contact person for other female kiters who might be visiting their area or that want to know more about kiting and how to get started.

Any activity of the local chapters will be announced and released on the KB4girls website and facebook page and these KB4girls LOCAL events will offer amazing opportunities for female kiters to get empowered through the sport in their local community.  Additionally, KB4girls will continue to hold a series of bigger, international events that will, from now on, be called KB4girls GLOBAL events.  These encourage the Chapters and their members from the region/area/continent to come together and meet with many other female kiters.

Chapters also have the chance to win the opportunity to host a 2013 KB4girls GLOBAL event with Kristin Boese, KB4girls founder and world champion kite boarder!  Take a look at the KB4girls Chapter blogs and be inspired by the many amazing women featured here!

Consider starting your local Chapter or connect with your local Ambassador for a schedule of events.
