IKA recognizes KB4girls as the official women's incentive program to promote and support the sport and to foster the development of kiteboarding
BERLIN/LONDON, July 29, 2012: While the IKA and a number of its national associations have already supported the KB4girls foundation's programs around the world both parties have now agreed to join forces for an even stronger promotion to support the sport of Kiteboarding for women.
The KB4girls foundation was established in 2009 by 9x World Champion Kristin Boese with the goal to bring more women into the sport and to support and motivate those girls and women that are already practicing the sport of kiteboarding.
The IKA is the governing body of kiteboarding within the ISAF (International Sailing Federation) and is responsible for managing kiting on a global level which comprises administration, world events, rules and guidelines as well as the promotion of youth and women among other things.
Markus Schwendtner, Executive Secretary of the IKA said in a statement: “KB4Girls is an ideal way to promote womens kiteboarding and especially to get more women into competitive kiteboarding. Local chapters are growing all over the world, not only in Europe and North America, but also in South America and especially Asia and Africa. Thousands of women have already found the way into the sport due to the KB4Girls programme, and we hope to further grow womens participation with the help of Kristin and the KB4girls foundation.”
As part of the agreement between the IKA and KB4girls, national kite associations and KB4girls local chapters will be encouraged to seek affiliation in order to be able to help create an even stronger network for female kiters with even more support.
KB4girls founder and president Kristin Boese said: “The cooperation with the IKA means a lot to KB4girls. As an official development program within the IKA our local chapters all around the world will be able to work closely with their national kiteboarding associations and develop even stronger programs for females within their area and country. This will make it possible to reach out to even more girls and women and give them the recognition they need and deserve and we are very excited about the cooperation with the IKA.”
The KB4girls foundation is supported by Best Kiteboarding, DaKine, and Baby-G and strongly encourages other brands within the kiteboarding industry to support their cause to help to grow female kiteboarding.
