Wahoo!  I'm back in Hatteras and so happy!  I got back in a little over a week ago and it's been awesome to kite at my favorite spots with my favorite people (even if it hasn't been my favorite temperature - brrrr!).  And, you may have noticed that the 2012 Triple S invite list came out and there are 6 women on it!  Which is super exciting given that two years ago there were only three women at Triple S (making the awards ceremony seem a bit silly).  This year's invite list includes Adriana Harlan, Bruna Kajiya, Gisela Pulido, Kris Kinn, Lulu Vroman, and Susi Mai.  And one of the wild card spots is set aside for a female rider!  Triple S is always fun; with this awesome group of women riders, it should be even better!

Our first event is still on for May 5th so see you all then if I don't see you on the water before then!  The wind just shifted to SW so I'm off to the slick.

Hope everyone is having a great winter!  Spring is coming and so is kiting season!  Actually, for those of you already in the OBX, you may think kiting season is here given that it was apparently in the 70s with SW wind this past week.  Here’s hoping the warm and windy weather continues (otherwise, I’m going to freeze when I get back to the Outer Banks after spending the winter in the Caribbean kiting).

Our first KB4Girls event will be May 5th at 2 pm at Kitty Hawk Kites in Waves (MP 40 on Highway 12).  The Kite Expo (with tons of kite companies around) will be going on at Kitty Hawk Kites that weekend, so come early or stay late to check out all of the 2012 gear and chat with the reps.  Our event will be a meet-and-greet session followed by some kiting (assuming its windy).

Also, I am working on the schedule for the rest of the season for our events.  If you have any preference about what times work best for you for events (Saturday afternoons?  weekday late afternoons?  other times?), please let me know.  I want to try to make the schedule so it accommodates as many people as possible.  If you have ideas about what types of events would be fun, feel free to pass on those ideas as well.

I can’t wait to meet/see all of you and kite together!

Hi everyone and happy new year!  Welcome to the Outer Banks KB4Girls chapter.  I’m very excited to get this chapter started – even though it’s a bit chilly for kiting (at least for me) right now.

We’ll get started with our chapter events in April and continue through November.  Our event schedule will be posted in a later blog, but look forward to clinics, downwinders, slick and surf sessions, bonfires, barbeques, kiting movies, yoga, and anything else that we think of that sounds like fun.  We’ll hold some of the events at Kitty Hawk Kites and some events at other spots to take full advantage of all of the riding conditions available on the Outer Banks.

A little about me – I’m originally from Baltimore, but I learned to kite while working in New York City three years ago.  Yes, there is kiting and even good kiting in NYC.  About a year later, I quit my job and left to travel for 9 months around Latin America (including spending some time on the water kiting in Ecuador and Costa Rica).  I’ve spent the last two seasons teaching at Kitty Hawk Kites and winter time traveling to warmer kite spots.  The more I travel, the more I’m convinced the Outer Banks is one of the best kite spots!

I can’t wait to kite with all of the local women and all of the women who come to visit the Outer Banks (and all of our awesome riding spots) this coming season!
