Hiya girls!

As you may have seen on Facebook KB4Girls have teamed up with Hove Lagoon who are hosting an awesome event just for girls on the 20th May.
Here at KB4Girls Lancing we want to encourage you all to not only enjoy all that kiting has to offer, but to become true 'waterwomen'! Expand your hobbies so that on those days when conditions are not right for kiting, you still manage to get out on the water :)
Kicking off at 2.30pm, for £25 you get 3 hours of taster sessions (SUPing, wakeboarding and windsurfing), as well as a BBQ, indo-board demo's, and a fun competition at the end to win some awesome prizes! (Including kite lessons with the BKA!)
If you know anyone who is interested in kiting send them down to us! We will have our own stall, and will be available to talk anyone who is interested through the basics of kiting & learning to kite. We will be giving out discounts for introductory kite lessons, as well as free cakes! ;)  To book a space up on this day please call 01273 424842

Hi girls!

Well the good news is that there is wind forecast for this Sunday :) The bad news is that is is N/NW - not a great direction for riding at Lancing!
So we are thinking that instead of a downwinder at Lancing, we head over to Greatstone in Kent - where the wind direction will work much better. This is about a 1.30 to 2 hour drive from Lancing. The tide goes out VERY far at Greatstone, so to make the most of it we would want to get there way before low tide (low tide is at 2.00pm). So the plan is to leave Lancing at 8.00am, hopefully arrive in Greatstone at 10.00 am at the latest, which will then give us time to have a briefing, watch some instructional bits, and get out on the water before the tide drops and we have to walk 20+mins to get to the sea ;)
We are still focusing on new season-new trick, so will begin with a video instruction session and on land training before hitting the water. Here you will be put together  with others who are at a similar level - so you girls can really push each other to pull off a new trick on this session. And don't forget that we will have people on the water and also on the beach to coach and talk to you about the trick you are trying to achieve. We'll be taking photo's and video for you to have a look at, analyse and review at the end of the day some where warm with food.
If you are still keen to join us please let us know.

Have you got space to take people in your car and want to share the petrol cost? Do you need a lift there? Then please let us know. Please feel free to head over to Lancing Car Park just before 8am so we can organise some car sharing. Alternatively if you would prefer to meet us there, that is not a problem at all. Our mobile numbers are at the bottom of this email - call us when you get there!
THINGS TO REMEMBER!

Take all your kite kit! Even the sizes you doubt you'll need, because you can guarantee that if you don't bring it you will need it ;)
Bring along a (warm?!) drink and some snacks to keep you going:)
We look forward to seeing you there!
Jo & Andrina!

Announcing our chosen charity...

All KB4Girls Global events are non-profit, and funds raised by participants helps to fundraise money for local charities. Here at KB4Girls Lancing we would like to officially announce our chosen charity - St Barnabas House.

Earlier this year, our community was devastated to hear of the tragic passing away of local kitesurfer Fiona Claisse. Fiona died on the 18th January 2012 after battling Bowel Cancer and is sadly missed and remembered by many.

Fi was an avid kitesurfer and passionate about inspiring progression in the sport. She worked closely with her husband Rob Claisse developing the well known 'Progression' DVD's. Her philosophy to kitesurfing reflected the same view as our own here at KB4Girls; attracting more girls into the sport as well as encouraging those already kiting to learn something new. This is something Fiona took close to heart and worked to promote. She was an amazing and inspiring woman who touched many people's lives.

At only 33 years old, Fi was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer in October 2011. She had chemotherapy for 12 weeks but it had no effect, with the cancer growing and spreading to her stomach, liver, jaw and hip bone. What had started as only a few years survival, changed to months and then sadly only weeks. During this time Fi showed a strength of character that was astounding, but not surprising to those that knew her best. She was in pain at many times over the whole period. But towards the end she was a lot more peaceful.

Rob has since spoken a lot about the unfailing and continued support he and Fi received from St Barnabas House. St Barnabas House is a local independent charitable hospice that offers palliative care for patients with advanced cancer and other advanced life-limiting diseases. Having an advanced illness can raise all sorts of practical, physical and emotional issues, which affect not only the patient, but their loved ones too. The hospice aims to help tackle these issues, offering expert advice and support along the way. Their patients are valued and given time, are accorded respect, privacy and dignity, and are responded to with empathy, sensitivity and honesty. Patients and families are never charged for the care they receive from the hospice.

St Barnabas House offered Fi crucial support and advice from the minute she was diagnosed right through to her final days. Anytime Rob and Fi were unsure how to deal with Fi's pain or symptoms the nurses and doctors were only a phone call away, day or night. When things became more serious both Rob and Fi were welcomed into the hospice to stay for as long as Fi wanted, and treated with incredible kindness & dignity. Rob has told us about his upmost respect and praise for the nurses and doctors who helped to make Fi's final weeks far more happy and relaxed, and has already raised £13996 to, in his words, "help St Barnabas to continue to be able to offer such tremendous service that we would have been lost without".

St Barnabas House costs £4 million each year to run, and without support from fundraising it would not be able to provide continued care and support for families across Sussex. To fund themselves they rely on donations and organise sponsored fundraising events, from sky-dives to hikes and expeditions in other countries (e.g trekking the Inca trail).

Fi will be forever missed and never forgotten. St Barnabas House was central in helping her and Rob through the last stages of her life, and here at KB4Girls Lancing we would like to honour and remember Fiona by donating any funds we raise to St Barnabas House, an undeniably worthwhile cause.

At Fi's funeral, Rob conveyed a message that he knew Fi would like him to pass on.

"Don't settle for good enough, you deserve more from your life. If you dream of something better, know that you deserve it and can make it happen".

As Fi showed throughout her life, never give up trying.

upported by the Brighton Kitesurf Academy, Lancing Council and Lancing kite club - the first KB4Girls Lancing Chapter event this year will see girls of all abilities coming together to push their skills in an organised downwinder from Lancing Beach to Shoreham.

We will start the day with a video technique session held in the comfort of the local ‘New Sussex’ pub just by Lancing Beach, followed by a safety briefing. WELCOME!

Welcome to the Lancing, UK Chapter! We (Andrina and Jo) are extremely excited about launching this chapter, and are already planning loads of exciting events for this year!

Lancing is one of THE BEST places to kite on the South Coast. It has something for everyone! Learning to kite is easy with the consistent summer winds and low flat water sessions. And more advanced riders can push their skills on flat water or take advantage of small swells that occasionally push in. To top it off we have a fantastic group of local kiters who never hesitate to help out or offer advice when asked.

Lancing has been host to two KB4Girls clinics so far, and at the last event we ran the first ‘friendly competition’ in association with our National governing body the BKSA. These last two clinics were thoroughly enjoyed by all participants (even the first clinic where there was no wind!)

Read all about the 2011 clinic (and fun competition!) here!

And click here for the KB4girls Lancing Video's 2010 and 2011

We are supported by the BKSA (British Kitesurfing Association) as well as our local club  - The Lancing Kitesurf Club.  We also promote appropriate insurance for participating at our get together's, if you do not have this already you can get this through becoming a member with the BKSA where you can also simultaneously join the Lancing kite surf club to help support our local kite scene- keeping the beaches open, safe and further allowing events like these to continue in you area.

CHAPTER EVENTS

We will be organising events every second sunday of the month from April to October. These will range from non-wind activities (e.g. riding the local Cable at Hove Lagoon, SUPPING, kite video sessions and simulator training etc) to kite clinics, downwinders, video/photo technique kite sessions and open days to encourage beginners. We will be organising a trip to Egypt to take part at the KB4 girls event there this year, and will be doing our annual trip to the West Country, read about our last one here:

We will post details of upcoming events on this page and the KB4girls Facebook page. We are also always available in between chapter events if you want to kite or do something else, just get in touch (see below) with either one of us. We look forward to meeting you soon!

ABOUT US!

Andrina Kelly:

I have been kiteboarding now for 8 years, I did my IKO instrutor training in 2009 in Weymouth and am now a Level 2 IKO instructor, and I plan on doing the BKSA training this year.  I currently teach through the Brighton Kite Surf Academy, which is based on Lancing beach, which is also my local beach and where i live( I can see the kite beach from my lounge.) I am also a KB4 girls UK ambassador. I have been fortunate enough to attend and coach at various KB4 girls clinics in Egypt, Turkey, New York and of course England. I am also now sponsored by BEST Kiteboarding. I am super excited about creating this KB4  girls Chapter with Jo. We met at the early days of our kiteing journey, and take great inspiration from each other. We are both super excited with how the female kite scene has developed and are looking forward to helping its growth continue.

Jo Malyon:

I started kiting in 2003, after becoming bored of watching and videoing my partner all the time! I inevitably got the 'kite bug' and my passion and interest in kiting has (like most people) continued to increase year after year. Now sponsered by Airush and Shinn I continue to enjoy riding in one of the best spots  on the South Coast of England, my local beach -Lancing.I have been active on the girls kite scene for some time organising social events and getting girls together for kite sessions, and have been involved in organising local KB4 girls events the last few years and am very excited about starting this chapter together with Andrina. Nothing motivates my kiting more than kiting with other girls! I plan on doing my BKSA instructor training this year, and am looking forward to 2012 -the year of the girls ;)
