FEATURE GIRL NUMBER 1 - Heike Wycisk / German Champion 2010

featuregirl_HeikeWyciskKB4girls: Heike, you took part in Kristin’s girls camp in Germany every year since it’s beginning in 2003. What have those camps given you and what motivated you to move on to actually being a coach in this years event?

Heike:  The camps have always given me a lot. I got to meet so many other female kiteboarders and also got a new motivation kick out of them every year  and it was always great to be part of it. When I became German Champion this year I kind of felt obliged to step up and help to coach myself and give the participating girls the same chance I had. With 50 participants in the KB4girls Germany event this year I finally also thought it would help to rather have an additional instructor than taking up a spot in the camp.

KB4girls: Congratulations to your national title from KB4girls! We are very proud of you! How did it feel to become German Champion in Freestyle 2010?

HeikeWycisk3Heike: At the beginning of the season I really did not expect to win at all and so the surprise and joy was huge when I actually took the title! I did feel proud of myself in a way but also motivated to try new tricks and compete on the German tour again next year after it worked out so well this year.      I have always competed in marathons and did not really feel like putting more competitions on my schedule. Through the pressure from Kristin and the group spirit I experienced in my first ever kite competition last year in which Kristin stood by our side I finally gave in… luckily!

KB4girls: We think you very much deserve the title since you have always done a lot to support the young talents in the German kiteboarding scene by working with the Silke Gorldt Surfing association. What is your personal task in this association and what are the goals of the Silke Gorldt Surfing (SGS)?

Heike: I take care of public relations as well of some organizational tasks. I write and send out the press releases, stay in touch with the SGS partners as well as help to set up the events and coach in the junior PRO events. The association strives to keep Silke’s name alive by supporting the youth in the sport in a safe environment. We realize this through multiple camps a year in which we coach the kids on and off the water and all the way from their first steps in the sport to finding first spons ors and getting into competitions.

KB4girls:  And what are your future goals in the sport? Are yougoing to compete again on the German tour next year?

Heike:  I definitely want to compete in the German Kitesurf Trophy next year again and depending on the schedules and my job I might also consider some international competitions. Most importantly though do I want to stay fit and healthy and hope for better wind in Germany next year!
