KB4girls foundation combines forces with KTA

Bulabog Beach on Boracay Island, Philippines will host a KB4Girls PRO clinic alongside KTA’s (Kiteboard Tour Asia) tour stop

High resolution pictures of the KB4girls tour are available here: http://www.kb4girls.com/press/press-area/press-pictures.html)!

TAMPA/LONDON/MANILA, February 3rd,  2011: The KTA (Kiteboard Tour Asia) and the KB4girls foundation enter a 3 year agreement that sees the KTA tour host a KB4girls event at one of their tour venues each year. Main goal of the cooperation is to promote female kiteboarding in Asia and motivate more Asian girls and women to take up kiteboarding on a competitive level.

The first event as part of the cooperation will be held at the KTA tour stop on Boracay Island, Philippines and will take place from March 8th-10th, 2011.

Boracay is a famous kiteboarding destination and many international riders visit the island on a regular basis for its perfect shallow water and consistent wind conditions. With many female kiters on the island and the surrounding Asian countries Boracay will be the perfect place and time not only to kick off the 2011 KB4girls tour but also the cooperation with the KTA.

As a KB4girls PRO event this camp will focus on motivating and preparing females riders for international competitions while maintaining the KB4girls vision to build supportive local female kiting communities. Females of all ages and ability levels are welcome to join. The minimum requirements for participants are the ability to go upwind and to kite independently.

Girls will receive direct on-the-water and on-the-sidelines, coaching from 9 time world champion Kristin Boese. The girls will also be encouraging each other throughout the competition, raising an overall confidence level while learning tips and tactics for success.

Kiting in Asia is picking up pace, with the KTA tour stops providing a way to measure ones skills, more riders are working harder and improving fast! Neil Godbold, organizer of the KTA, says , “Getting more girls involved in the competition scene in Asia is a brilliant idea and one of the reasons we started the KTA.  I think KB4girls is a wonderful foundation and we are proud to be working with them. We look forward to our training partnership with KB4girls. The KTA Philippines is a great event and one that riders from across the region and further have been looking forward to again this year, now it just got even better."

Kristin Boese, founder of KB4girls, remarks "I am especially excited about our event on Boracay/Philippines, not only because it is such a beautiful place and perfect kite location but also because this event is going to be our first ever KB4girls event in Asia! It will give all the female kiters there a chance to join our camps too. I am also very thrilled about KB4girls' cooperation with the KTA as I think both the KTA and our foundation are following many of the same goals and ideals like supporting the local communities and riders and working together for a healthy growth of our sport."

Anny Barlow, local organizer and rider, says: “This union between the KTA and KB4girls is perfect. Many of the female riders in Boracay can’t wait for this experience. When we catch-up I can already see it’s motivating more girls to join the competition, knowing they will have a coach and support structure near by. And personally, I can’t wait to see the community structure that will evolve between us fellow female kiters on our little island.”

The event will be held at Bulabog Beach in front of the 7Stones Resort that is supporting and hosting both the KTA and KB4girls event. The KB4girls training area will be set up outside of Hangin Kite School at Greenyards Funboard and Neilpryde Test Center. The KB4girls foundation and their worldwide tour is sponsored by Best Kiteboarding, DaKine and Kiehl’s.

Registration for this event will be open at http://www.kbgirls.org until March 1st, 2011 and will be limited to 30 girls and women. A donation fee of 30$ will be asked for that will aid the KB4girls foundation to continue their projects.

Last leg of the KB4girls 2010 World Tour finishes successfully

Australian competitors guided through their first ever World Cup competition

TAMPA/LONDON/SURFERS PARADISE, December, 13th 2010: This marked the first KB4girls event with a real focus on competition coaching and preparing female kiters for their first international competitions and the level of riders in the clinic in Brighton Beach/Brisbane on December 3rd and 4th, 2010 was excitingly high.

While the conditions allowed for 2 great sessions on the water as well as an on-water-demonstration the 2 days were also packed with theory, mental imaging and competition tips and tricks.

Alexandra Wood, participant in the KB4girls event in Brisbane says: "I feel so privileged to have been part of this clinic and Kristin has been a real inspiration. I especially liked the way she taught with a lot of patience and in step-by-step explanations that were very simple and clear. I learned to unhook and wasn˙t scared of it at all because of that. But kiting was not the only thing that mattered, the bond between the girls was amazing and I am really looking forward to head down to the Gold Coast with the girls for the World Cup to cheer them on!"

The 2 best female rippers, Michelle England (NSW) and Shannon Ducker (WA), went on to compete in the freestyle, wave and race competitions at the first ever PKRA kiteboard world cup held in Australia (Surfers Paradise) from the 5th to the 12th of December, 2010. Kristin helped and guided them through the competition.

Kristin Boese says: "It was quite a big step for the girls to enter a PKRA World Cup competition. Since this was the first ever international competition in Australia it was more intimidating for them, not being familiar with the format but also competing with all these big names they have so far only met in the magazines. They were nervous to start with but made amazing progress during the week. Shannon Ducker won her first freestyle heat, ending up in 9th place in the discipline and Michelle England on the other side did the same in the Wave competition. This is an amazing achievement and I think both girls got really motivated to train hard and enter more competitions in the future."

Shannon Ducker comments: "I felt really good, focused and confident and was amazed that I landed everything except of one trick. I was very happy with how I went. It was awesome to have Kristin running around on the beach and being our mentor through the whole week and I think both Michelle and I gained a lot of confidence through her and also the KB4girls event before the World Cup because we never felt alone and very supported."

KB4girls is excited to be able to finish this year's season with such a very special event and is looking back at an amazing 12 events in 2010.

All of these events would not have been possible without the support of the local communities. For the amazing support during the Brighton even we would like to send out our gratefulness and acknowledgment to Kite Power QLD, Bris Kites, Surf Connection, The Brisbane Kite Club (in particular Graham and Alexandra), Lyatte Peach and Ian Osborne.

KB4girls 2010 World Tour presented at the ISAF Womens forum

Kristin Boese honored to be the first kiteboarder nominated for the ISAF ROLEX World Sailor of the year award

TAMPA/LONDON/BERLIN, November, 11th 2010: In combination with her nomination for the ISAF ROLEX World Sailor of the Year award KB4girls founder Kristin Boese had been invited to join the ISAF Womens Forum meeting, taking place during the annual ISAF conference, to introduce her global kiteboarding project.

The presentation of the KB4girls worldwide training program for women and girls was very well received by the ISAF Womens Forum. The participants gave back significant feedback and support for the project.

Sarah Kenny from the ISAF development and youth committee says: "It was so exciting to see the work Kristin is doing to help introduce girls to kiteboarding. We know we need to keep sailing relevant to youth and women and KB4Girls is a fantastic initiative to help do that."

Kristin Boese, founder of the KB4girls says: "First of all it was amazing for me to see the great number of women that are actively involved in the ISAF and are doing such amazing work. To be invited to join the forum and to present the KB4girls concept to them was very special to me. I was received so openly and warmly and getting such nice feedback from the women in the forum meant a lot to me. It has furthered my motivation even more to keep pushing the program forward as hard as I can. I would like to especially thank Fiona Kidd, chairwomen of the forum, for her kind invitation and for being so supportive along the way."

On November 9th, just 2 days after the women's forum met, Kristin Boese was presented together with 3 other female and 4 male nominees at the ISAF ROLEX World Sailor of the Year award at the stunning "Zappeion" building in Athens/Greece.

Congratulations go out to Windsurfer Blanca Manchon (ESP) and Laser Sailor Tom Slingsby (AUS) for winning the 2010 ISAF ROLEX world sailors of the year award and their amazing achievements in the sailing world.

Boese said about the award ceremony: "This has certainly been one of the most special days in my life and the award ceremony was absolutely fabulous! I feel extremely honored to have been nominated for the ISAF ROLEX World Sailor of the Year Award especially since it was the first time a kiteboarder was amongst the nominees. Thus making it an honor for kiteboarding at the same time and proving that it has been fully accepted by the ISAF family. My congratulations and deepest respect go to Blanka and Tom."

Being asked what her thoughts on kiteboarding as a part of sailing are, Boese says: "I think taking the amazing sport of sailing with its long history and traditions and to throw the very young sport of kiteboarding into the mix is a great innovative step and I am very glad that the ISAF accepted kiteboarding as one of their sailboat classes almost 2 years ago. While kiteboarding and sailing might seem very different at first they really have so much in common and compliment each other in a way that can create even more excitement and diversity. I can only thank the ISAF for taking this step."
